Seeking Surf

What is it that brings you peace and freedom from fears during these Covid days?

For me, it’s time spent being refreshed by God’s Word, reading a good book, and time at the beach.

It’s important to break away from the routines, the endless news cycle, and places of restriction. I try to make sure my kids get this too. I’m thankful for the skateboards, the bikes, and our pandemic pup (who makes sure we all get a turn outside everyday!), but sometime we need more room to breathe. It’s easy for me to get in my car and seek this space alone, but I often try drag the kids out the door too, at first as unwilling participants, but then slowly we all relax into the rhythm of being outside.

Friday it was my son who texted, “Mom, can we go to the beach after school? The waves are good.”

I was tired and the thought of curling up at home and watching a movie seemed like the perfect end to the week. But I knew seeking the surf with him would be good for all of us. I’m glad he brought me along for the ride this time.

Our Friday rhythm- He surfed, she collected shells, and I took in the water with my camera.
